GC Employees Travel Safely on the Bangkok-Rayong Route with “AI for Road Safety”

AI innovation is set to play a key role in driving various industries. Although it’s still in the early stages in Thailand, today, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), as a leader in innovation and the chemical business aimed at creating a better life, recognizes its importance and has applied it to enhance the safety of employees traveling between Bangkok and Rayong.

Rayong, the home of GC, is one of the top five provinces with the highest number of road accidents in the country. Mr. Chatchawalit Dhammasaroj, General Administration Manager at GC, stated that the “AI for Road Safety” project is a collaboration between three companies: PTT Global Chemical, Frontis Company, and Microsoft (Thailand). The project focuses on developing an AI system for use within the company to ensure the safety of GC employees traveling on the road.

The pilot phase of the project involved installing devices that can detect risky driving behaviors in employee transport vehicles on the Bangkok-Rayong route. Initially, four vehicles were equipped, and the AI system was fine-tuned and trained to become more intelligent. The plan is to expand the system to 29 vehicles by the end of 2019.

The use of AI not only provides peace of mind for the families of GC employees, ensuring their loved ones return home safely, but it also aligns with GC’s establishment of the Digital Transformation department, which is driving GC toward true digital operations. This year, GC will focus on applying Advanced Analytics across the organization, guided by the Triple Transformative approach. This includes three key areas of development: business, focusing on enhancing efficiency and reliability in production systems; personnel, collaborating with VISTEC to train employees in Advanced Analytics to boost their capabilities; and technology, with an emphasis on Master Data Management.
