PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTTGC) recently featured an innovative exhibit of textiles made from plastic waste collected from the seas as part of the “Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand” project at Bangkok Design Week 2018, in conjunction with the Office of Knowledge Management and Development (Public Organization) (OKMD) and the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC).

The “Waste Side Story by PTTGC” pavilion was an outstanding architectural showcase developed under a partnership between PTTGC and a team of renowned architects and designers including Mr. Javier Goyeneche from Ecoalf; Mr. Prapakas Angsusingha from HOOK’S by Prapagas; Ms. Jarupat Archawasamit from Ausara Surface; Mr. Pongsatorn Laead-orn and Mr. Phubes Wittaya from FIF DESIGN Studio; Mr. Somchana Kangwarnjit from Prompt Design; Mr. Thanawut Thanasarnvimon from TandT; Mr. Rawin Rungsawang from III by FLY NOW III; and Ms. Lalita Narisaranont from Cloud-floor Studio.

The architects and designers joined together to produce creative works that transformed used materials and plastic waste into fashionable clothing collections, ornaments, and architectural works. They developed innovative ideas to add value to recycled materials while improving the quality of people’s lives and promoting knowledge and understanding about efficiently using resources to maximize their value and benefits under the concept of the “Circular Economy.”

The creative works made from plastic waste and displayed in the Waste Side Story by PTTGC pavilion were aligned with Bangkok Design Week 2018’s theme of “The New-ist Vibes,” which positively reflects “Moving Forward” with future-centered design concepts.
