Dr. Chaya Chandavasu, Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Corporate Branding, GC, attended the launch event for 'Litter Traps in Public Canals,' an innovative prototype that was streamlined to effectively trap waste in canals. The operation will begin at Khlong Kut Muang Chao Muang in the municipality of Muang Lad Luang before expanding to other canals as part of the "Ten Clean Canals, Hundreds of Volunteer Spirits' project to honor his Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua on the auspicious occasion of his 68th birthday on July 28, 2020. The project kicked-off in the municipality of Muang Lad Luang in Samut Prakarn on July 24, 2020.

The project was the result of a collaboration involving GC, a company that is committed to promoting the principles of the circular economy into its business strategy balancing the economy, society and the environment, together with the Administrative Center for Volunteers, the Ministry of Industry, the Municipality of Lad Luang, the Industry Clinic, and communities in the municipality of Muang Lad Luang. The goal of the project is to improve the landscape along ten canals in the municipality of Muang Lad Luang through a partnership involving the public and private sectors, and the general public. It will also include public awareness campaigns to keep the canals clean through cleaning activities, particularly for waterside businesses, and create an innovative prototype that catches waste found in the canals.

Dr. Chaya said, "GC, as a leader in the circular economy, has adhered to GC Circular Living which promotes the application of circular economy principles into everyday life. We have continuously conducted several projects that deliver tangible and successful outcomes including another project nearby called 'OUR Khung Bangkachao' which was initiated in partnership with Wat Chak Daeng and our other partners to develop recycled monks robes."

The "Ten Clean Canals" project was launched as part of a royal project to honor His Majesty the King, and is an extension of GC's 'Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand' project. Because Khlong Kut Chao Muang is located near the basin, the project aims to reduce and separate waste before it reaches the Gulf of Thailand. Furthermore, the project is set to comprehensively build and reinforce GC's circular economy network through the company's recognized leadership in the circular economy. GC is also focusing on the bigger picture and has pledged to build a closed-loop by supporting increased innovation and collaboration with the private sector, and further gaining the public's trust to increase cooperation. This will help to promote awareness about GC's ongoing efforts and build public support for a more circular economy.
